In February 2013, 25 Saharawi activists were sentenced by a military court from 2,5 years to lifetime for taking part in the organisation of the Gdeim Izik protest camp in November 2010. The camp demanded the socio-economic rights of the people of Western Sahara.

Life sentences confirmed for political prisoners

The Moroccan Court of Cassation yesterday confirmed the harsh sentences rendered against the so-called Gdeim Izik prisoners. The group took part in the mass protest on socio-economic marginalisation in Western Sahara in 2010.
