The Russian trawler Aleksandr Mironenko has been fishing offshore Dakhla from Dec 19th 2007 to 13 Januar, and also at least from 28 January to Feb 2nd 2008.
It is currently operating at a location 23 degrees north, 17 degrees west, which is well inside the occupied waters of Western Sahara.
Morocco occupies the major part of its neighbouring country, Western Sahara. Entering into business deals with Moroccan companies or authorities in the occupied territories gives an impression of political legitimacy to the occupation. It also gives job opportunities to Moroccan settlers and income to the Moroccan government. Western Sahara Resource Watch demands foreign companies leave Western Sahara until a solution to the conflict is found.
